i think i didn't waste my $9.50 watching that show.
first time watching a show at amk hub.. haha they have a touch screen where by you can book tickets.. but didn't know how to use (too advanced for me??) so yeah went to the counter to book instead. but the cinema itself was not really impressive. the seats are nice and cosy and comfortable and the sound effects are great, but the screen wasn't good at all... lots of artifacting here and there. i think its not a digital theatre at all. ironically the screens at tpy so far are the best, since they are digital.. but of course overall i'll still choose amk hub over tpy. just that i think seats aside, cathay cineleisure seems to be better.
on to the movie itself... the starting sequence was great. usually those are left to the credits.. but this time the starting is really great.
well and the story itself was great too. well i would've thought it was a ghost flick had i not read some spoilers on those chinese forum. but turns out to be much more than that.. but its kinda paradoxical thought. also, i think the ending could've been elaborated more, it was sort of left hanging there.
as for the dialogue, i don't really like it. there isn't anything memorable to quote actually. it's all too cheesy and gets repetitive after a while. well if they actually had more decent dialogue then the movie would be almost flawless.
but of course.. the best part is still the part where jay chou plays the piano. the piano duel is really fantastic.. i think its almost impossible for many to do that feat... it was like completely natural to him. it was so amazing that i wondered whether what he was playign corresponded to the tune that was produced!! but i heard its all true. so wow.
the music pieces throughout the movie really adds to the atmosphere. i think without the music then the movie won't have that amount of suspense and all already. it's just great, and i would really want to get the OST! haha and they kept on playing 情人的眼泪 in various parts of the movie... 为什么要对你掉眼泪?你难道不明白为了爱?it was supposed to be xiao yu's favourite song since she came from SPOILER ALERT 1979. and it was supposedly xiao lun's fave song as well.
as for the funny scenes. well. i think the atmosphere for much of the movie was kinda relaxing. as in not really serious.. but one really funny scene was when anthony wong danced with jay chou. haha. and those two rugby players singing at some party.
all in all, there are many happy, sad, touching and lively scenes in this movie... and the music really manages to complement the mood well. overall i think its worth watching, especially for the plot itself. 4/5!
